Immanuel was founded in 1897 by a group of farming families, mostly of German ancestry. We were a country church in Southern Minnesota surrounded by corn fields until the Synod asked us to move into the town of Fairmont after World War II. The town was a mission field, and there was no church North of the railroad tracks to serve the people of the growing neighborhoods around George Lake. In 1947 our current sanctuary was completed and the first services were held.
