Chisago City is a very unique, historic community. Did you know that we received our name from Indians who settled here long ago? The name Chisago comes from the Chippewa (Ojibway) Indian name referring to Chisago Lake (Kichi-saga sagiagan). Kichi means large, saga means fair or lovely. In 1943, Chisago City was hosting a visit by actress Ingrid Bergman. The creamery provided some of its award winning butter that she sent back to Hollywood. Our citizens are proud of their Swedish heritage and we work hard to maintain our unique small town feel despite our close proximity to the Twin Cities Metropolitan Area. Our city offers excellent educational, retail, and business opportunities for individuals and families. In addition, abundant lakes and beautiful parks within our community give residents and visitors a place to relax in a peaceful setting.
