The town of Pierson is located in the northeast quarter of Woodbury County. Platted in 1883 by the Blair Town Lot and Land Company. The railroads played a major part in the development of this once booming community. In its early days Pierson had lumberyards, hotels, movie theaters, a bowling alley, restaurants, doctors’ offices and many stores. In 1966 when the railroads left town the business and the population declined, but the small-town atmosphere continues on today.
Pierson is home to a beautiful World War 1 monument that was erected in 1921 with the citizens of Pierson fund raising for over $4000. This monument was rededicated with the addition of a bronze plaque signifying the fact that it is a National Centennial Memorial- one of only two designated in Iowa. Other unique features include our 9-hole sand green golf course one of only 3 left in Iowa and a beautiful rock shelter house built by the CCC in 1937. We also house the Middle School of the Kingsley-Pierson Community School District.
