History
First State Bank dates back to September 18, 1900, when Citizens State Bank opened its doors. After a good start, the bank was renamed First National Bank of Sumner on May 1, 1906. The bank survived the Great Depression and was one of the few banks left in Iowa to reorganize after the Bank Holiday and the only one left in Sumner.
Its continued growth is reflected by the installation of its first ATM in 1985. In 1991 the Sumner branch office of the failed Statesman Savings and Loan was purchased. A change in the regulatory environment prompted the changing of the charter on June 23, 1993 and renaming the bank to First State Bank. Telephone banking was first available in 1995 and the banks website and Internet banking was added in 2001. And in 2004 with the purchase of another banks branch operation in Fayette, the bank expanded outside Sumner for the first time.
First State Bank continues to develop ways for customers to have a rewarding banking experience as we Help your financial dreams come true.
