Artist Bio

The short version..................Tyler was born and raised in rural Iowa where he took a pottery class his senior year of high school. After high school, Tyler apprenticed a master potter, Colin King, for a few years.Soon after the apprenticeship, he worked different jobs ranging from a certified pool operator, construction laborer, and maintenance guy, to a waiter. All of these jobs helped him form his current business. Tyler enjoys all aspects of being an entrepreneur.

The long version...................Tyler always enjoyed taking part in both visual and performing arts in high school. The only pottery class he took was during the second semester of his senior year in high school. Tyler enjoyed making pottery, but didn't think he would make a career of it. He considered pursuing a job as an electrician, but just couldn't shake loose how fun that pottery class was.Right out of high school, in 2000, Tyler heard about a local potter and began his apprenticeship there. While working other jobs, along with his apprenticeship, Tyler decided to build his own hobby pottery studio on a cold night in November, 2002. Tyler then spent three years transforming an old hog building into the hobby studio. Which, as you could imagine, was a challenging task.In 2006, 'From Miry Clay Pottery' officially became a business. In June of 2010, Tyler and his wife, Laura, bought a former bank building and remodeled it into their gallery, studio, and home. His beautiful wife became a full-time stay at home mom when their first daughter was born in 2008. Laura still helps Tyler when she can. Currently, the business is growing consistently, just like their three children.
