I’m Ashley Eckenrod, owner of Grain & Thread in Sumner, Iowa. I opened my brick and mortar store in September of 2017. Before that, I enjoyed selling repurposed furniture, junk and antiques at area craft fairs and antique markets part-time. I always thought it would be so fun to do full time! Then in September of 2017 I decided to go for it!
I’ve always had a love of clothing, just like most girls do, so I knew that I’d want to add women’s clothing, accessories and shoes to my junk and home décor mix. It’s been a great combo! I’ve also added a paint line, gift items and things made from local artisans. I still do a few shows and markets throughout the year, but mainly am based out of the storefront.
Since opening, I’ve really fallen in love with the shop small, shop local movement and see how important it is for our community.
