Business in Sanborn, IA

When the need for a flower shop presented itself in 1970, the owners, local physician Dr. C. Maris and pharmacist son "Doc" (the pair of docs) utilized the former Princess Theater building at 204 Main St. Built in 1884 as a roller skating rink, throughout the years it has housed a drug store, hardware business, butcher shop and variety store until the theater was established in 1914. As a flower shop it offered fresh cuts plants and permanent arrangements. The business was purchased in the fall of 1983 by Fay Schmidt Schall who added a few antiques and home decor items to the inventory. Expansion to the south occurred nine years later with the purchase of a former brick bank and the addition of furniture, clocks, framed art, mirrors and home textiles. Today the shop continues to offer fresh flowers and plants; new and old home accents mingle on shelves of turn-of-the-century cupboards and showcases. Architectural salvage and repurposed "finds" provide surprises around every corner. Creaky old wood floors, 1914 tile and antique lighting create the relaxed ambiance of an earlier time. Come in and wander thru their two levels
