Past & Present Home Gallery – “The Antique Store with Character” -- is located at 619 Broadway, in Alexandria’s historic downtown. At Past & Present you will find an eclectic mix of furniture, antiques, collectibles, primitives, man cave, stained glass lamps, vintage jewelry, coins and many other conversation pieces rich in character. We have items that are well over a hundred years old and some that are newer.
Most furniture pieces from the past were handmade and hand carved, giving the amazing detail and characteristics they each have. This is what creates the unique “character” in each piece that we cherish today. Along with the ornate craftsmanship of the furniture, other beautiful things like glassware, pottery and all the “fancy work” (quilts, crocheted doilies, embroidered pillow cases, tablecloths, towels etc.) were handmade and hand painted. The many hours of detail that went into these pieces really make you appreciate them. These are the “Conversation” pieces with “Character” that everyone talks about.
offering years of expertise in antiques and furniture restoration
We also buy, sell, and repair furniture. For many years before opening Past & Present Home Gallery, Jeff Lanoue had a furniture restoration business. You’ll find many pieces throughout the store that have been given new life, whether it’s TLC, full restoration, painted to give it a new look, or re-purposed in some way.
The store itself is rich in character, from the original 1940 JC Penny’s sign that was recently uncovered, to the fur vault -- once used by Barthelemy Furs -- in the lower level that has been transformed into the “Man Cave.”
