The Merry Moose Quilt Shoppe is located just 3 miles from beautiful Lake Sakakawea in the small central North Dakota town of Garrison. While the doors to “The Moose” have only been open since November of 2012, it was in the brain of owner Deb Husebye for many years before that.
Deb started quilting around 23 years ago. While she doesn’t remember the exact date, she boarded a plane home from her sister’s house with a book full of quilt square patterns. Her sister had given it to her to look over. She thought it would be something fun the two sisters could do together. Since North Dakota and Wisconsin are neighbors (not!), Deb took the ball and starting running. It quickly turned into her addiction. While they didn’t get to do a lot of quilting together, it was her sister that encouraged the addiction by supporting the habit with lots and lots of quilts to be made!!!! Deb’s kids nearly grown and Pam’s kids very young, Deb had a lot more time than Pam did so she made quilt after quilt after quilt for Pam and her family. THAT’S how it all started.
With a huge passion for quilting and just as huge of a love for people, “The Moose” became a reality in 2012. We have approximately 900 bolts of fabric here at The Moose so far (but growing) and we strive to make your shopping experience fun and maybe even educational. We have a Gammill Statler Stitcher in the shop that is operated by a friend and fellow quilter of Deb’s. Kim is an artist in the truest sense of the word, whose canvas is the quilts that are brought in or sent to us! Check out some of her work in the gallery and the long arm services section.
