The Cherokee Fire Department consists of 25 volunteer firemen, two paid driver/dispatchers and a chief. The fire station is manned five days a week, with split shifts 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. Monday through Friday, Equipment consists of four pumpers, one aerial truck, one tanker and an equipment van. The department provides fire, rescue, and hazardous material services for the area of Cherokee and surrounding rural areas. The department also maintains several agreements with surrounding communities to assist each other with major incidents or as needed.The Cherokee Fire Department sells and services all types of fire extinguishers.
