Madrid has had a police department almost since its incorporation as a mining town in 1883. Back then, police work was done on foot. An officer had a badge, a gun and a club, and little else. There were no radios, no radar, and not much pay! In the 130 years since, the Madrid Police Department has become a progressive department with many of the same technological advances as any major city.
The Madrid Police Department’s motto is “Dedicated to Serve – Sworn to Protect.” The emphasis on the motto is “serve,” and the Department proudly serves the Madrid community of nearly 2,500 residents. The department is made up of the Chief and two full-time sworn officers who are well-trained and committed to serving the community. Each officer is responsible for additional duties such as crime prevention, traffic liaison and criminal investigator. The department also has it’s own D.A.R.E.® Officer that provides DARE education to the 6th grade elementary school children.
