Sanborn was a railroad village named after an official of the Chicago Northwestern Railroad. In 1891, the village was incorporated. At one time, Sanborn could boast of having four elevators and many businesses. The City of Sanborn is now a statutory city with a mayor, four council members and a clerk/treasurer.
