St. John Lutheran congregation in Frederika was formally organized in the early months of 1892. Shortly thereafter a church was built on land located two miles north of Frederika. In the early summer of 1892 a cyclone completely demolished the first church building.
That same year the church was rebuilt. In 1937 the congregation voted to re-locate in Frederika, several lots for the new church site were donated. A church building was purchased from the disbanded Evangelical and Reformed congregation in Leroy Township. The building was moved to Frederika. The church in Frederika was dedicated on November 21, 1937.
