Welcome to the friendly City of Breckenridge, MN, a community of 3,400 located just off of Highway 75 and 210 in the beautiful Red River Valley. Breckenridge is uniquely located right across the river from Wahpeton, ND.
The community has many parks to visit with indoor and outdoor shelters and playground equipment. Welles Memorial Park is the home of the Head of the Red where there is also a ‘Friendship Sculpture’ denoting the Headwaters. This is where the Bois de Sioux River and Otter Tail River join to form the Red River. The Red River is one of the few rivers that flow north all the way into Canada. Catfish is the choice of many anglers who come to fish and relax for the day. Primitive camping is also available.
Looking for something to do in the winter months? The three rivers offer excellent ice fishing opportunities! Or come check out our outdoor ice skating rink and sledding hill, and then warm up inside the Family Community Center (FCC) with a cup of hot chocolate while playing billiards or foosball!
In the summer months, our state-of-the-art Family Aquatic Center includes a variety of slides for young and old, lounge chairs, tables with umbrellas to shade the sun and a concession stand to get you refreshed for a fun-filled day!
With a unique twist, the Bois de Sioux Golf Course is an 18-hole course that houses nine of the holes in Breckenridge, MN, and the remaining nine holes in Wahpeton, ND. If you prefer other leisurely activities, take a stroll on the pedestrian paths and enjoy the scenic rivers or the various landmarks such as the helicopter at Veteran’s Memorial Park.
In 2011, the downtown area was given a face-lift updating many of the businesses through a TIF Grant program. Breckenridge offers a variety of stores for you to visit such as gift shops, grocery store, restaurants, 6-screen movie theater, pharmacies, hardware store, flower shop, custom embroidery store, banks, beauty salons and more!
