About Durant, IA


The City of Durant is located just two miles from Interstate 80 at Exit 277, between the Quad Cities, and Iowa City/Coralville areas. Historic Highway 6 brings you right through the downtown.

Amenities for everyone!

Durant offers plenty of amenities including: a grocery store, drug store with full service pharmacy, a bank, hardware and lumber store, medical clinic, and several dentists and chiropractors. Durant has its own school with grades pre-K to 12th grade all under one roof. Durant is very proud to have a Volunteer Fire Department and Volunteer Ambulance Service.

The City of Durant has a population of 1,832 (2010 Census) and operates under a mayor-council form of government. Five council members serve with staggered four year terms. The mayor is elected every two years and serves two years. City meetings are held every second and fourth Monday of each month at 6:00pm at City Hall, 402 6th Street and are open to the public. Council adopts all ordinances, resolutions, and policies for the City. Any agenda items must be presented to the City Clerk by noon the Thursday before the council meeting for Mayor’s review.
