Gilmore City is primarily a farming community. Families here have ties to this community dating back since it founded back in the 1800's.
There is a variety of things for all ages in Gilmore City. There is an elementary school in town for the children, as well as a daycare and preschool for the youngsters. The local Faith United Methodist Church hosts an After School Program for elementary students to give them something positive to do and look forward to each week.
For the more mature and experienced folks there is the Senior Citizens Center. They are a group that loves to get together and have fun. They offer various card playing opportunites as well as monthly potlucks and a Tuesday morning "coffee and donut" session where you can have great company and friendly conversation.
Throughout the year there are various functions hosted by the church groups or the volunteer Fire and Ambulance crews. The school puts on different programs throughout the school year and last but not least we have a library who loves to get involved in the community. The library has a couple of very imaginative ladies who love to come up with new ideas. Mary Jo is the story lady who goes to the daycare once a week and reads and interacts with the young children. She also puts on the childrens summer reading program under the direction of Library Director Lana Lewis. Lana takes care of business, making sure that there are always the newest books by everyones favorite authors. She also makes sure that the movie selections never get "old". Lana also works on putting together "movie nights" at the library and is in the process of putting together a Wii Bowling league.
So you see, there is a little something for everyone. Don't be shy, come visit sometime and if you like stay a while!!!
