Hadley was founded as "Summit Lake" on October 31, 1879. In 1880
(when it established a post office), it was renamed for the cities of
Hadley in New York, Pennsylvania, and Massachusetts. It was
incorporated as a village on September 1, 1903.
Situated along MN State Hwy 30 in Murray County, our community offers a great quality of life. Summit
Lake welcomes guests to the city as one enters from the South off Minnesota State Highway 30. Hadley's citizens enjoy a great rural
lifestyle where everyone helps one another, they get together for
community events, and enjoy the peace of rural living. Hadley's
location offers a great rural life with additional opportunities for
shopping and entertainment near by. Hadley is just five miles West of
Slayton, MN and 22 miles East of Pipestone, MN. Proximity to regional
hubs like Marshall, MN, Worthington, MN, and Sioux Falls, SD can be
reached in drives of approximately one hour.
The economy is largely agriculture based with many families producing grain crops such
as corn, soybeans, and wheat. In addition, the ag economy is bolstered
by livestock operations and wind energy production.
Each summer the community celebrates America's pastime by supporting the local
amateur league baseball team, The Buttermakers. The baseball field
serves as a community gathering place for friends and family.
