About Harpers Ferry, IA


Harpers Ferry was platted in 1852; it was then called Winfield. In 1860, the name was changed to Harper's Ferry (with an apostrophe-s). This historic river valley community is located on a sand plain along the Mississippi River, once the location of one of the largest concentrations of Indian mounds in the Upper Mississippi River region. Trapping, clamming, and commercial fishing.
