The city of Hinton is located in the valley of the Floyd River in Plymouth County in northwest Iowa. The topography of the county consists of rolling hills broken by small streams and rivers. Hinton is located near the Floyd River with the western portion of the town built on the sharp Loess Hills that border the Floyd River flood plain.
In the fall of 1856, the first settlers moved into Plymouth County and in 1858 formally organized the County as a government unit. From these humble beginnings, the town has grown into a community that provides schools, community events, parks, recreation areas, and much more for the children to live the good life!
