Litchfield was platted in 1886 when the railroad was extended to that point.

Litchfield is a village that is located in Sherman County in the state of Nebraska, USA. It follows the Central Time Zone. Many people most likely believed that it got its name from Litchfield, Connecticut. The total land area of the village measures 0.3 square miles. There is no body of water in its geographical location.

Old Settlers Picnic is a gathering that is participated and witness by lots of people from other places. This event is held in July of every year. In the fall, there is also the Dads, Lads, and Lassies Hunt.
