About Louisburg, MN

LOUISBURG, a city in section 33 of Lake Shore Township, was platted on September 12, 1887, by Ole Thompson and William R. Thomas and incorporated as a village on November 2, 1905; it is said that Ole Thompson, who owned the land of the townsite, named it for his father, Louis Thompson, who had settled in section 34 in 1876. When the post office opened in 1888, the first postmaster was Thomas R. Thompson, son of Ole; it had a station of the Great Northern Railway.
