The slogan for Mandan, North Dakota, “Where the West Begins,” embodies our community’s rugged and hearty nature evident in our terrain, people, annual celebrations, and heritage, first as a village for the Mandan tribe, then a cavalry fort, railroad town and hub for area ranchers and farmers.
The City of Mandan was founded in 1881 as the center for western expansion of the iron rail. In 1883, a railroad bridge spanning the mighty Missouri River linked the east and west.
Today, Mandan is a growing city. As the county seat for Morton County, and along with Bismarck, Mandan serves as a regional retail and trade center.
We are passionately retaining our hometown atmosphere and history, while moving ahead every day. We welcome new residents, businesses and visitors!
