Marcus was founded in 1871. It has become a city where people enjoy living and raising their families. We host an excellent school system, low cost of ownership for a home, extremely low crime rate, grocery store, library, two medical facilities, Historical Society, Senior Citizens Center, US Post Office, Community Center, swimming pool, baseball fields, Lions Club, five churches, proactive mayor and city hall staff, a lumber company/hardware store to rival any "big box" store but with outstanding customer service for your home needs.
Marcus offers one of the best volunteer fire and rescue departments in Iowa.
Our community-built, not-for-profit care center, which also provides assisted-living facilities, is a real source of pride
The population of Marcus, according to the 2013 Census, is 1,106 citizens. We're located in Western Cherokee County on Highway 143, just one mile north of Highway 3.
