The City of Merrill, Lincoln County, is home to approximately 10,000 residents. As the county seat, and with a strong commercial and industrial base, the City is the business and service center for Lincoln County. The City offers numerous parks, and is nicknamed “The City of Parks”. Merrill is located on the beautiful Wisconsin and Prairie Rivers. The City is also home to the T.B. Scott Library, a superb library beyond what is generally found in cities our size.
A Mayor and eight-member Common Council govern the City of Merrill. The City provides a wide range of municipal services, including police and fire departments, ambulance service, water and wastewater utilities, streets, storm water, parks, library, transit, and general government services.
Merrill is a community with lots of small town charm and Northwoods hospitality. Year round Merrill residents and visitors enjoy a wide variety of activities. Merrill has one of the last remaining city bands in the state with weekly outdoor performances during the summer at various events and evening concerts in Normal Park. A Farmer’s Market, and special events such as the Ladies Lifestyle Expo, Barley-Fest, Pro-Rodeo, parades, ice cream socials, and the county fair are popular summer attractions. In the fall and winter, enjoy the Labor Day Parade and activities, Winterfest, and Halloween and holiday events, as well as snowmobiling, cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, ice fishing and hunting. Summer activities include fishing, boating, kayaking, hiking, biking, camping and bird watching.
Visitors can observe the area’s many different bird and animal populations including black bear, deer, timber wolves, coyote, otter, beaver, porcupine, fox, raccoon, muskrat, bald eagles, herons, cranes, hawks, owls, ducks, migrating swans and Canadian geese. Thousands of acres of hunting land is open to the public and provides excellent big and small game hunting. The many area lakes, rivers and streams also offer great fishing, especially for northern pike, walleye, muskie, largemouth bass, bluegill, crappie, perch, and trout.
