The start of the fire department can be traced back to as early as 1913. Early records about the organization are within the city of Sioux Rapids. Local business men were organized and equipment was purchased including two-hundred foot of hose and a hand drawn hose cart. Looking at a January 1925 annual inventory record for the fire department was two-hundred foot of hose that was purchase in 1913, 400 feet from 1919, and 600 feet that was purchased in 1925. Also in the inventory were the two hand drawn hose carts.
