In its small-town communities, you will find caring people, who know their neighbors and who come together to help in a crisis or to celebrate something special. You will find everything you need, or you will be within a short drive of it. You will find some of the best small schools whose attention is focused on academics, but which still offer a wide variety of extra-curricular activities. You will find a few nice lakes and the beautiful Crow Wing River. You will find county and state parks and campgrounds, and hopefully, you’ll find a place to call home.
There is no shortage of activities to enjoy when you come to live in, or visit, Wadena County. With numerous County and State operated campgrounds along the beautiful, forested Crow Wing River, and with outfitters strategically located along its banks, the tubing and canoeing doesn’t get any better than it is in Wadena County. There are hundreds of miles of horseback and four-wheeler trails to travel with a few handy little pit stops along the way, as well as bike and walking paths. Snowmobiling on the trails maintained by the Trailbreakers Snowmobile Club, as well as on the Crow Wing River, and cross-country skiing are very popular winter activities. With all of that and hometown celebrations every couple of weeks in the summertime, you will always find a place to go, fun to be had, and good people to be around!
Come and explore the many facets of Wadena County! You’ll enjoy Nature in all of its splendor in the Huntersville and Lyons State Forests. From big game, to small animals and song birds, you’ll see and enjoy it all. From tall timber and rolling farm fields to native plants and wildflowers, the countryside presents a beautiful portrait for all four seasons. Like the Native Americans and the Voyageurs, navigate the waters of the historic Crow Wing River and visit Old Wadena Campground and the Little Round Hill historic site. Every town has a history, and, with several historical museums and the Historic Depot in the City of Wadena, you can learn about each one.
