The Heart of Le Sueur County
Founded in 1876, Le Center now serves as the county seat for Le Sueur County. The earliest settlements in Le Sueur County were established along the Minnesota River which, as a navigable stream, provided European man with a highway into this part of the Minnesota Territory. At that time, all of Le Sueur County was covered with what was known as the “Big Woods”—a very large tract of deciduous hardwood timber that forested the area between the prairies of the southwest and the pine forests of the northeast in Minnesota. Today, Le Center is fortunate to have good schools, thriving businesses and churches, as well as active Planning and Zoning, and Economic Development Committees that support the retail, manufacturing and cultural opportunities for residents of Le Center and Le Sueur County.
