William Erickson, son of Mrs. L.O. Erickson of Olivia, Minnesota, was the first World War I soldier to be killed in action from Olivia. He was born in Lake Lillian, Minnesota on June 26, 1889. He entered service at Olivia April 26, 1918, and was sent to Camp Dodge, Iowa. He was killed in action in France on September 6, 1918. He was buried in France. Four years later his body was brought back to Olivia and a funeral was held. He is buried in the Olivia Cemetery. The Olivia Legion Post is named after him.
