Johnny R. Buhsmann

Johnny Russell Buhsmann, son of John Harms and Ruth Eldora (Magee) Buhsmann, was born February 7, 1933 in Mallard, Iowa. He received his education in the Mallard school system. Following high school, Johnny enlisted in the United States Navy and later the United States Army, serving his country during the Korean War. On July 29, 1963 Johnny was united in marriage to Sandra Jean Halstead in Jackson, Minnesota. Together, Johnny and Sandra raised seven children. Johnny returned to Palo Alto County after being honorably discharged from the service, and worked for area farmers. He then was employed at PamLine in Emmetsburg until they closed. Johnny then went to work at the Spencer Pack until it closed. He was then employed at the Rendering Works and most recently at Fisher Hydraulics in Laurens. After his accident Johnny was forced to leave Fisher's in 1990. Johnny was a life member of V.F.W. Post #2295 in Emmetsburg. Johnny lived in Palo Alto County his entire life. He enjoyed a cold beer and a game of pool and he loved to visit with people. Johnny will be remembered by his friends and family as â??quite a characterâ?� and they would be able to tell many stories about antics Johnny was a part of. Johnny passed away Monday, June 21, 2010 at his daughter's home in Laurens, Iowa at the age of 77.
